Skream and Benga are officially back together, releasing new music and touring again after more than a decade apart. The South London duo, who helped define dubstep in the early 2000s, have launched a full reunion with new singles, a collaborative album in progress, and major festival appearances across Europe and North America.

The pair first connected as teenagers through Benga’s older brother, exchanging tracks over the phone before ever meeting in person. Both were already producing garage-influenced material, with Skream drawing from El-B and Benga leaning toward Wookie. Their early chemistry produced The Judgement in 2003, an EP that laid groundwork for what became dubstep.

Skream’s “Midnight Request Line” arrived in October 2005 and became the genre’s first crossover anthem. The track, originally built as a grime experiment in FruityLoops, remains the highest-selling 12-inch on Tempa Records. It introduced countless listeners to dubstep while maintaining the eerie, bass-heavy character that defined the sound.

The duo’s collaborative breakthrough came through Magnetic Man, a supergroup formed with Artwork. Their self-titled debut album, released in October 2010 via Columbia Records, reached number five on the UK Albums Chart and topped the UK Dance Chart. The single “I Need Air” peaked at number ten on the UK Singles Chart, while “Perfect Stranger” featuring Katy B hit number sixteen.

After that commercial peak, Skream and Benga pursued separate paths. Skream explored house and techno while Benga focused on solo work and later took a break from DJing to address mental health issues. They reunited on BBC Radio 1 in October 2015, their first on-air appearance together since co-hosting a Friday night show. Benga spoke openly about his bipolar diagnosis during that broadcast, telling listeners he had been writing new material.

The current reunion began taking shape in early 2025, when the pair revealed they were working on a collaborative album. Their first original joint release in over a decade, “Good Things Come To Those Who Wait,” arrived in June 2025. The track, available in “main” and “raw” versions, features billowing low frequencies and monstrous drum work designed for club playback.Quick Bio

A second single, “Midnight Control” featuring Emily Makis, followed in November 2025. Released on the same day the duo performed back-to-back with Fred again.. in Vancouver, it marked their first North American date in over a decade. The collaboration with Makis continued a pattern of working with vocalists that stretches back to Magnetic Man’s Katy B and John Legend features.

Producer Nitepunk confirmed in April 2026 that he was in the studio with Skream and Benga, calling the collaboration “real” in a social media post. While no release date has been announced, the session suggests the album will incorporate newer bass music voices alongside the duo’s foundational sound. Skream and Benga have also remixed Charli XCX, further signaling their engagement with contemporary pop and electronic music.

Live performances have been central to the reunion. In summer 2025, they appeared at Parklife, Glastonbury, and Dour Festival. Their Glastonbury set took place at the Levels stage, continuing into the early hours of Sunday morning. They also performed at Nuits Sonores in Lyon, France, in May 2026, where the festival described them as “two iconic figures of British dubstep” returning with “uncompromising sets”.

The reunion’s most significant statement may be their upcoming Drumsheds show in London on October 17, 2026. The event launches Spotify’s DIA/LOG live series, a three-room exhibition of dubstep and UK bass culture. The lineup spans their influences and peers, including Plastician, Sir Spyro, D Double E, LTJ Bukem, SBTRKT, Jammer, MJ Cole, and Flava D. Newer artists such as Nitepunk, Jakes, and Emily Makis will also perform, bridging generations on one bill.

Skream and Benga framed the event as forward-looking rather than nostalgic. “The story of Skream & Benga isn’t just about looking back at what we’ve done or celebrating where dubstep came from,” they said in a statement. “It’s about recognising how far the culture has travelled, where it’s grown to, and where it’s going to next”. They described the show as “honouring the past while keeping our eyes to the future”.

That perspective distinguishes this reunion from a simple victory lap. Magnetic Man’s chart success in 2010 proved dubstep could reach mainstream audiences, but the genre’s evolution since then has fragmented into countless subgenres and regional scenes. By platforming newer artists alongside foundational figures, Skream and Benga position themselves as connectors rather than gatekeepers.

Their individual trajectories also inform the reunion’s character. Skream’s decade-long exploration of house and techno gave him fluency in tempos and textures beyond 140 BPM. Benga’s hiatus and recovery added perspective on the pressures of touring and creative output. Together, they bring both historical authority and genuine curiosity about where bass music has landed.

The duo have additional European dates scheduled, including an appearance at Evenemententerrein Walibi in Biddinghuizen, Netherlands, on August 21, 2026. A full-length album remains in progress, with Nitepunk’s involvement suggesting it will balance their signature low-end weight with contemporary production approaches. For a partnership that began with phone calls between two teenagers in Croydon, the current chapter represents both a homecoming and a deliberate step into new territory.Q: Are Skream and Benga back together?
